Lavaca County Courthouse (Hallettsville)
The Courthouse was constructed in 1897. This is a beautiful building which has under gone restoration but needs additional work. It is open to the public. In the late 1800's, there was a bitter fight over what town should be the county seat. It is unfortunate that Hallettsville was chosen. The Courthouse was constructed in the Lavaca River flood plane and has flooded badly at least twice since construction. The county jail was also constructed in the flood plane and has since been abandoned for a site outside the city. Sam and Will Moore Institue (Moulton TX) The school building was constructed in 1901. It is the current Moulton High School with the "Bobcat" as the mascot. The building is located in the northern part of town and is designated a "Texas Landmark".

Moravia Store/Hall (Moravia,Lavaca County) The store was built in 1889 as an old country store and hall. A Railroad Caboose (No. 957) is located along side the building. A famous polka song was written about the store and Old 957 "Moon Over Moravia". To better appreciate the history of the Moulton and sourrounding area stop in at Patek's Grocery in Moulton and buy a Polka Music CD with "Moon Over Moravia".

Spoetzl Brewery (Shiner Beer)(Shiner TX)
The brewery has been in operation since 1909. Tours of the brewery are conducted during business hours. The Brewery also has an excellent gift shop. It is located on the west side of Highway 95 before you enter Shiner.

St.Joseph Catholic Church (Moulton)
The Catholic Church is located in northwest Moulton. The parish was organized in 1888 with the current church building completed in 1924. The Church operated a school by the Sisters of Divine Providence which opened in 1894 and closed in 1965. The current rectory was constructed in 1948. The last major renovation to the church was in 1992. This beautiful church is worth a side trip to see. Return to Church Directory
Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church (Moravia)
The church was constructed August 15, 1905 and is one of the beautiful old churches in the area.

St. Mary's Catholic Church (Praha TX)
The church was constructed in 1913 and is one of the beautiful old churches in the area. The Church is famous for its Veterans Day Celebration each year.

Old Moulton Baptist Church (Moulton)
The Church is located 2.5 miles northwest of Moulton on the Moulton-Waelder road. It was started in 1903 and reflects the stark nature of the baptist churches in rural Texas. To the right of the Church other buildings were added for fellowship and class room instruction. (Services 10:30 AM Sunday).

Eagle's Nest Church (Moulton)
The church is located on Highway 95 in Moulton. It is the first Non Denominational Church in the area.

Wolters Edwin Museum(306 S Avenue I,Shiner TX)
The museum is located in a quiet neighborhood and depicts life in Shiner.There is another Museum on the main street Highway 90A west of downtown.

E.A. Arnim Archives and Museum (Flatonia)
The museum is located at 101 West North Main Street (front street) and shows life in Flatonia with clothes, equipment, household items, etc. Also check out the Old Flatonia Jail about a block south of the museum. Return to Museum Directory
